BNR 2024/2025 Season Wrap

What a year for the Brisbane North Region Baseball Association!  During the representative season, the region had:

·         138 youth players participating in State Titles across 12 teams;

·         35 girls playing in the Youth Women’s State Titles;

·         12 women playing in the Open Women’s State Titles;

·         34 kids over 3 teams competing at the Lismore Timberjacks Tournament;

·         Fantastic results were achieved by the regions representative teams with notable results including:

o   BNR Youth Women’s Team – Gold at the Queensland State Titles;

o   BNR Open Women’s Team – Gold at the State Titles;

o   Brisbane North Gold Girls Team – Gold at the Girls State Titles;

o   Brisbane North Little League Team – Gold at the State Titles and Gold at the National Titles;

o   Brisbane North Junior League Team – Gold at the State Titles and Gold at the National Titles;

o   Brisbane North Intermediate League Team – Silver at the State Titles and qualified to represent at National Titles.

The success of the region over a wide variety of age groups and in the female pathways division is a testament to the hard work of the players, coaches, officials and volunteers along with the systems that have been in place by the three Clubs in the region.

To cap off a remarkable 2024/25 representative season, both the Little League and Junior League teams won their respective National Championships and travelled to the US to represent Australia at their respective world series events.

Firstly, the Junior League Team travelled to Taylor Michigan to participate in the Junior League World Series.  The team was highly competitive going down in close losses to Germany (4-3), Panama (6-3) followed by a win in a cross-over consolidation game against Illinois (7-2).  In addition to their performances on the field, tournament organisers made special comment of the spirit shown by the team both on and off the field and the joy with which they approached the game and the social aspects of the tournament.  Coach David West has stated it is the most enjoyable tournament he has attended in his 43 years of coaching representative teams.  Special thanks goes to coaches David West, Luke O’Brien and Jacob Hall along with EO Kerry Bell and her EO Assistant on the trip, Rebecca Crew.

The Little League team travelled to Williamsport, Pennsylvania to represent the Australia region at the ultimate Youth Baseball Tournament, the Little League World Series.  In a fantastic achievement, the Little League team won their second game in the tournament defeating Europe Africa (Czechia) 5-3.  This was the first win of a Queensland based little league team participating in the Little League World Series.  A special highlight occurred with team member Monica Arcuri becoming only the 6th female player in history to record a hit in the tournament.  Aside from action on the field, the team took a trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and attended a major league game in Pittsburgh.  No doubt a trip of a lifetime for these young stars.  Special thanks to Head Coach Keith Land and Assistant Coaches Eli Jones and Darren Holden an EO Sally Reid.

With the 2024/25 representative season coming to an end, preparations almost immediately begin for the 2025/26 season.  The challenge for the region is to continue to build on the success enjoyed over the past few seasons to continue to provide our young and emerging stars with pathways to State, National and International competitions.
